Volunteer Medical Transport
How can I become a Volunteer Driver?
Volunteer drivers are always needed. If you would like to volunteer please call (503) 472-0457 Ext. 122
What is the VMT Service?
The YCTA has a van to provide rides to Yamhill County residents that need to reach destinations within the Portland area for medical reasons.
Who is the service for?
This service is designed to assist disabled persons and seniors, but is open to anyone with a medical need or for whom transportation to Portland is a challenge.
Where does the van go?
To over 100 locations in the Portland area – hospitals, medical clinics, laboratories, doctor offices, etc.
Is there a charge for this service?
No fee is charged. It is a free service. Voluntary donations are accepted.
What days & times is this service available?
The VMT van runs Monday through Thursday (except holidays) throughout the year. This is a group ride so the bus schedule is determined daily, based on the passengers medical appointments. Thus, departure-arrival times will vary. Medical appointments should be made between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
Are there any limitations?
No service on Fridays or Holidays. No early morning or late afternoon medical appointments, to allow for travel time.
How does someone arrange for a ride?
By calling (503) 472-0457, ext. 122 or (toll free 1-800-945-9992 ext. 122) to reserve a seat on the van. Seating is limited. After a seat is reserved, the scheduler will call before the ride and inform the rider of the time the driver will pick them up.
Where does the money come from for this service?
The VMT Service is funded by a yearly grant from ODOT Special Transportation Funds. The van was purchased with a grant from ODOT (90%) and Yamhill County (10%).
